If there is a book that can change lives, it is “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. As an entrepreneur, I rely on myself for motivation to stay focused and take the massive action daily required to be successful each and every day. In my early days in the home-based business industry, my mentor and coach suggested a few books. One of the best was (and still is) Napoleon Hills “Think and Grow Rich”. I read a few of the suggested selections, but this one rocked my world. When I started my home based business marketing on the Internet, I had reservations as to how successful I would be. Of course, these misgivings were my little secret. I did not share my fear of failure with my coach. I felt certain that if I did, it would result in a great pep talk, but nothing would really change.
Once I started reading “Think and Grow Rich”, I could not put it down. It was as though Mr. Hill was speaking directly to me. Each chapter encouraged me to take a realistic assessment of myself. Only I know who I really am and what my true fears are.

Napoleon Hill also managed to keep me entertained with some of his editorials on the state of politics and human nature in general. Although this book was written over 70 years ago, the state of politics appears to have remained the same. The political statements could have just as well been uttered yesterday. This is evidence of a timeless manuscript.
After my first reading, I went back and read it a second time, pausing to take notes, write action plans, and absorb the messages. Armed with direction, my goals became clearer. I was able to create a map to achieve these goals. My desire to be successful at my endeavors grew. I was no longer harboring secret fears that I would fail.
Braking free of the mental chains that had bound me to a series of business failure was liberating. I would have continued along that same path of repeated failures, which I now view as learning opportunities, had I not read and applied the mental management techniques exposed in the book.
“Think and Grow Rich” is not just for business on how to make money. The process can be applied to any aspect of life. One of my favorite quotes is “If you think you are beaten, you are, If you think you dare not, you don’t”. How many times have we given up on an idea, which or dream just because we have thought we could not or should not dare? For me, it was the fear of failure and/or ridicule from those around me.
Napoleon Hill’s teachings have given me the courage and solace to take action like I never have before. I now know that to turn dreams into reality, I need to grab my self confidence, develop a plan and take massive action immediately. As Hill states, “Wishing will not bring riches.”
